Ask Yourself?

How do you feel about this comment, "She is pretty for a dark-skinned girl."?

beauty is pure and true and good. the fact is that most people have a limited standard for beauty that stifles their ability to really see a person. Good looks are irrespective of skin tone. Look at the Sammy Sosa issue. His features and facial structure have not changed but some think he looks good now and others prefer his complexion darker. The eye of the beholder is biased and may play tricks on you.
It is sad that people find the need to qualify their comments about another's appearance. Just say they look good, period!

This bothers me so much. Being the product of two parents who are at very different ends of the color spectrum, I think it's ignorant to rate beauty on a scale of lightness and darkness. All women are beautiful in their own ways and society has to stop perpetuating this idea that women are only beautiful based on their skin tones. Darker women are beautiful and so are lighter women. I have definitely seen light skinned women who are not as beautiful as their darker friends and that goes to show that beauty cannot be rated by complexion.
