Chris Rock so adamantly stated "There is a Civil War going with black people: And there's two sides there's black people and there's niggers. And the niggers have to go."
Can you honestly say that the word Nigger can be used as a term of endearment?
Identified on Dictionary.com as "probably being the most offensive word in English" there is no reason why the N-word should be used. Derived from Slavery, which is the most shameful part of American history, Nigger was used to label black people as being ignorant, savage, inferior, and vile in nature.
It's as if parts of black society have become jaded by its meaning and brainwashed to think that if it is used amongst one another it is in turn "being taken back". Parts of black society is believing that using the word Nigger is "giving back" the power to the black community.
Ok, so your saying a word that was created by white, racist, slaveowners who looked at slaves as property to begin with, is "being taken back"?
My question is when was this word ever owned by the black society in the first place? Blacks were not founders of the word Nigger. So, When did it become exceptional to say? If it is if fact a "term of endearment", why do people become so offended when other races (particularly white people) use it? Does it truly help the progression of black society? Why has its history been forgotten?

I agree with you lynsey, many people say using the word would gives less power to it.. which i understand, however y this word and would it be acceptable if other races said it? Many of us do not know the significane of this word and i defintely know that we were not the ones picking cotton and going through all the constant hardships? I feel the word shows our ignorance and my biggest question is what happened to just saying a persons God given name instead of the word "nigger"?
I think this is an awesome topic, Lynsey and I'm glad you brought it up. Yes the N-word is offensive, especially when it comes from other races outside of the black community. But if I was to be honest, I have used the term amongst my black friends. Particularly, when describing someone ignorant or trifling. Here's the thing, I know it's not politically correct, I know it's not necessarily "building up" are community, and I get unbelievably offended and angry when I hear someone else who isn't black use it. In some ways this makes me want to deter from using the term. But I don't and I think this is many people's point of view. I should honestly think about the affects of my use of the n-word.
You know what's ridiculous, I have been caught saying the word as well, which brings me to the point that the black community specifically our generation has become completely jaded by the issues that come with a word that is so derogatory. It is our duty as people to make a more conscious effort to stop acting like it is ok to say and become accountable for the problems that our community faces and will continue to face (racism, prejudice, ignorance etc) if we don't eliminate this word from our vocabulary. If it bothers me to hear it from a white person or any other race for that matter, I should get the same chills when my friends and I say it so freely in conversation. It really makes me ashamed when I think about it.
Fuck face
